Hello from the Children Services Division! We are preparing for our annual Spring Book Auction for 2026 and we need books! This auction will help us create scholarships to send a few youth librarians to the OLA Conference in 2026. If you or someone you know has been on an award committee where you've received free books and are now looking for a home for them--think of CSD! Or maybe you have boxes and boxes of children's books in great shape that you don't need. Happy Fall from CSD! Our 2025-26 team is excited to connect with you this year. Here’s our October roundup of highlights for library staff serving kids.
Mock Pura Belpré - Have you registered yet for REFORMA’s incredible workshop at the Happy Valley Library on Saturday, October 18? In addition to the Mock Pura Belpré, REFORMA is also hosting award-winning author Duncan Tonatiuh to talk about his work. OLA/PNLA Proposals - We’re looking for great youth-focused sessions for this year’s joint OLA/PNLA Conference in April 2026. From intergenerational programming to inclusive services, advocacy to partnerships, you can submit your proposal now And think outside the box (or library worker world!) - if you know a great community partner who would like to present at OLA to share their expertise, send their info to [email protected] and we’ll follow up! Save the Date - Monday, November 3, join the OLA Children's Services Division for a fun afternoon focused on Summer Reading! 1-2 pm: Get the sneak peek from iREADs, complete with artwork and resources, as well as 2027 previews and the opportunity to offer input for 2028. (You'll be emailed a recording if you can’t attend live.) 2-3 pm: We’re talking Oregon performers and presenters, with a mini-tutorial on using the Oregon Library Presenters Directory and breakout sessions for idea sharing.
